The weight of A3 size paper
When ordering printed matter, you are often asked how many grams of paper you want the calendar, menu or brochure printed on. Quite a tricky question. That’s why it’s good to know that in most cases the weight also determines the thickness of the paper. The heavier the number of grams, the thicker the paper often is. And the more luxurious the appearance of your product.
For printing paper we actually always use 80 grams A0 paper. This does not mean that an A0 paper weighs 80 grams. The name is derived from how much 1 m² of paper (A0 size paper) weighs. An 80 gram A3 paper weighs 10 grams.
What does the 3 stand for in A3 paper?
The 3 from the size represents the number of times the A0 size is halved. So an A3 size fits 3 times in the A0 size (which has a surface area of 1m²).
